Definition of Valentine’s Day

Do you understand the meaning of the word “Girlfriend/Boyfriend = Sangsa (in khmer)” and “Love”? In Khmer dictionary explains that the word “Girlfriend/Boyfriend = Sangsa” is the journey back and forth or the circle of life and death. But most people use the word “Sangsa =Girlfriend/Boyfriend” toward boy and girl or man and woman in the meaning of adultery. And the word “Love” is a close relationship, a love that sticky as sugar. There is a saying that the Love of boy and girl is the nature born Love. By this mean “Sangsa = Boyfriend/Girlfriend”, it seems like talking in depth and love affair. Yet, there are other definition of Valentine’s Day, the free dictionary says Valentine’s Day,

Valentine’s day that many people and young people say that a day of love “Tngai Bon Sangsa” presents in Cambodia since the Kingdom of Cambodia gains peaceful and the influencing of foreign culture the globalization world. However, in Cambodia this is not officially accepted, but also not to say no to this occasion. For some countries this is prohibited. Some activities of Valentine’s Day in Cambodia from Valentine’s Day in Cambodia 2006,  and what people talk about Happy Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day or the day of love or Tngai Bon Sangsa is valued by young people and many people who could earn benefit for their business related to this occasion. But it is also receive a lot of criticism due to the holding to culture and tradition which said that it is not good for young people to do so and against the culture. Until today, Valentine’s Day still interpreted different ways in Cambodia. Some people say it is for friendship, love or family where cannot exactly identify. A part of those, people say that it is a good time to respond the love to their parents by giving flowers, gifts, or party and so on. All of those are to spend time and money that business could always take advantage of at any times. Those different interpretations made many young female sacrificed their virgin because of little present or just a bunch of flower or a rose.

Every society is moving forward with the act of development and change. Back to Cambodian the olden day young people tried to hide their loving action because they don’t want other to laugh at them or saying that those who have love like a flower that will lost its smell. Is Valentine’s Day the day of opening to destroying virgin?
